The Fox Inn

Its roots run deep, named after H.M The Fox, a Revenue Cutter ship that once patrolled the south coast to ensure pirates paid their dues. The Fox’s walls hold whispers of the past, from tales of smugglers’ tunnels connecting the pub to The Rectory and the Church, to the inspiration it offered William Blake, who penned parts of Milton and Jerusalem while living just across the road. The Fox was also home to the artist George Morland, who painted a ship leaving Chichester Harbour on a wall of the original Fox Inn in lieu of rent arrears.
